What is Diaper Need?

Diaper Bank

Diaper need is the struggle to provide sufficient clean diapers to ensure that each diaper user can be changed out of wet or soiled diapers as often as necessary.

Diapers Are a Necessity:

  • Without an adequate supply of diapers, families have no choice but to keep their children in dirty diapers or reuse soiled ones. For too long, babies in a soiled diaper are exposed to potential health risks, such as yeast and bacterial infections and severe diaper rash.

  • Most childcare centers and early childhood education programs, including free and subsidized ones, require parents to provide disposable diapers. Cloth diapers are not accepted at many childcare centers.

  • Parents in diaper need miss an average of 4 days of work per month.

Lack of Government Assistance:

  • 1 in 3 American families reports experiencing diaper need.

  • 5 million children in the U.S. aged three or younger live in poor or low-income families.
